The Inclusive Education Assistant will be responsible for providing a high level of learning and caring support to students at Pembroke’s Middle School (Kings Campus). This includes supporting the classroom teacher by assisting students with their learning, promoting wellbeing, and helping to establish daily routines and classroom rituals that foster a positive and nurturing environment.
About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Middle School and working closely with the Head of Inclusive Education (ELC - Year 12), this is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the learning and supportive culture in the Middle School.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Working with individual students and small groups under the direction and supervision of the Head of Inclusive Education.
- Supporting students with Individual Learning Plans and those with diverse learning and complex behavioural needs.
- Assisting students in developing independent learning skills by listening, encouraging, redirecting, explaining, reinforcing, and practising skills, concepts, and instructions.
- Liaising with classroom teachers to provide feedback on student progress and follow up on matters relating to students with complex needs.
- Supporting students with approved special provisions during tests and exams, as directed by the Head of Inclusive Education.
- Providing social and emotional support for students with diverse learning and behavioural needs, under the guidance of the Head of Inclusive Education.
- Maintaining accurate case notes and records of support provided for all classes attended.
- Observing and monitoring students not currently on the Inclusive Education database and refer concerns to the Head of Inclusive Education for further review, if appropriate.
- Other duties or responsibilities commensurate with the level of this position and your experience, as directed by management or the Principal.
About You
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting students’ wellbeing and enhancing classroom learning, particularly for students with English as an additional language.
You will bring:
- Mandarin Chinese speaking (favourable)
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships and engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, particularly young people.
- Proactive, welcoming, and collaborative, with the ability to work independently while contributing positively as part of a team.
- Calm, composed, and dependable under pressure, demonstrating sound judgment and reliability in challenging situations.
- Demonstrated empathy and the ability to support students in developing confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging.
- Adaptable and resourceful, with strong initiative and proven problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritise competing demands and manage multiple responsibilities.
- Competent in the use of various technologies and software platforms, including Microsoft Office and other relevant tools.
- Understanding and awareness of the additional learning needs of students whom may present or are diagnosed with cognitive, social/emotional, physical or sensory disability.
- Experience supporting children with diverse learning needs in an educational setting is highly valued.
