Pembroke School is seeking supportive Boarding House Supervisors to join our casual register, providing pastoral care and contributing to a respectful and inclusive boarding culture.
Our Boarding House Supervisors form the core and heart of the Pembroke Boarding community, providing engaging management and supervision. About the Role
Working closely with the Head of Boarding, Boarding House Supervisors will maintain a safe, welcoming environment that supports effective learning while providing active duty of care to all boarders. Assist in overseeing their wellbeing, development, and safety, keeping the Head of Boarding informed of any issues as they arise.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Provide pastoral care and encourage positive morale and self-esteem, responsibility, effective communication and a community spirit amongst the boarders.
- Actively and effectively supervise boarders' day-to-day activities including meals, prep time, laundry distribution, co-curricular activity, medical and leave.
- Assist in developing and maintaining boarding practices and processes to provide an equal and high quality service to all boarders.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships and communication and liaison with day school staff and tutors and be familiar with the needs and issues of boarders.
- Communicate effectively with parents and/or guardians to assist them in supporting their children.
- Administer First Aid, prescribed medicines, and monitor unwell boarders, as required.
- Uphold the rules and expectations of the School and, where appropriate, and under the direction of the Head of Boarding, attend to discipline issues in a fair, caring, supportive and encouraging manner.
About You
You will have outstanding interpersonal, communication and relationship management skills and the ability to effectively engage and work with a range of stakeholders, in particular young people.
You will bring:
- Knowledge of and ability to deal with sensitive situations experienced by adolescents.
- A proactive person who welcomes and encourages collaboration with others. Strong initiative with the ability to work as part of a team or independently and to manage up.
- Exceptional organisational skills, high attention to detail and the ability to effectively prioritise work and multi-task.
- A solutions-focussed, positive and diplomatic approach.
- Ability to remain calm, especially in demanding, challenging or critical situations and the ability to work under pressure.
- An aptitude for and the capacity to utilise various Information Technology and software programmes including but not limited to the Microsoft Office Suite.
