The leadership and management of the School's Languages programme is a critical role in the whole School community and the Head of Languages position is a responsibility which requires an experienced educational leader with vision. Pembroke is a leading school in Languages education and our new Head of Languages must have a vision and commitment to progressing language education, not only in the School but beyond.

About the Role

The Head of Languages will be responsible for the Faculty meeting School, SACE and IB academic requirements and deadlines while acting as a key position in the School's academic leadership.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the review and/or writing of assessment plans, instruments and procedures for Year 7-12 in all subject areas within the Faculty
  • Working with class teachers, organise appropriate remediation and extension work for students who need it.
  • Ensure that the latest information about curriculum and assessment is available and understood by staff, students and parents.
  • Establish appropriate recording and reporting procedures within the Faculty.
  • Provide information for academic awards and prizes, competitions, or other academic matters.
  • Organise, publicise and report on competitions, delegating where appropriate.
  • Make recommendations to the Dean of Studies with respect to staffing.

 

About You

The Head of Languages will be required to demonstrate their ability to enthuse and inspire students, and work with colleagues to create a positive, collaborative working environment.

You will bring:

  • A highly skilled and experienced educator.
  • A visionary and a lateral thinker.
  • An experienced classroom teacher registered (or able to be registered) as a teacher in the state of South Australia.
  • Able to model consistently best teaching practice.
  • Well-versed on contemporary developments in the languages and have an expertise in at least one of the major languages taught (French, German Mandarin Chinese and Spanish) and a great interest promoting languages study through the school.
  • Able to demonstrate skills in people management with staff, students and parents, and have excellent communication skills.
